CMA concludes funeral market investigation

CRA advised one of the leading UK crematoria operators as part of the CMA’s review of the funerals sector. The market investigation involved a two and a half year in depth review of competition in the sector.

As part of the review, CRA undertook performance-concentration analysis, a consumer survey, a choice modelling logit model empirical study to estimate willingness to pay for quality parameters, local overlap and competition analysis, and profitability analysis. Despite an advisory steer by the CMA Board suggesting price controls be considered as a possible remedy, the crematoria sector avoided any major remedies. More details on the market investigation can be found here.

The CRA team was led by Simon Chisholm and included Riemer Faber, Gerhard Dijkstra, Gaetan Lelievre and Edward Selway.
