Dr. Michiel Paris is a Principal in the Antitrust & Competition Economics Practice at CRA.

Dr. Paris specializes in the application of applied microeconomics and econometric methods to intellectual property and antitrust matters. He regularly addresses intellectual property issues in litigation, including determining reasonable royalty and lost profits damages in patent infringement disputes.

Dr. Paris has been involved in fair, reasonable, and non-discriminatory (FRAND) cases in the US, Germany, Netherlands and India for the cellular (2G-5G), Wi-Fi (802.11), HEVC (H.265), AVC (H.264), EVS and AMR-WB standards. He has also been involved in several lost profits and reasonable royalty cases relating to non-SEP patent portfolios. His industry experience includes telecommunications and cellular, video streaming, medical devices, and computer software.

Dr. Paris has been regularly involved in advising manufacturers in licensing negotiations over royalties. He co-authored a forthcoming white paper to be published by WIPO, outlining methodologies for determining FRAND royalty rates. He is an expert in the economic valuations of patents and other forms of intangible assets
