Geert Van Moer

Senior Associate

Dr. Geert Van Moer is a competition economist in the European Competition Practice of Charles River Associates, based in Brussels. He offers knowledge on the competitive effects of agreements and mergers between competitors in various contexts. He also has experience with market design questions in the electricity sector.

Prior to joining CRA, Geert worked for six years as Assistant Professor at the Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki. His latest project analyzes agreements between competitors about their use of a natural resource. Geert’s research has been presented in seminars at competition authorities in Europe and the US. He acted as academic expert at the ACE conference in 2022 to discuss the sustainability agreement between Shell and TotalEnergies, and in 2023 to discuss the use of the as-efficient-competitor test in the market for thermal energy in Latvia.

Geert published in journals such as Journal of Industrial Economics, International Journal of Industrial Organization, and Economics Letters, as well as in practitioners’ outlets Concurrences (Law and Economics section) and Oxera Agenda. His article on “joint bidding and horizontal subcontracting”, jointly written with Jan Bouckaert, received a nomination for the Concurrences Antitrust Writing Awards. At Hanken, Geert has lectured various courses, including competition economics.

Geert holds a PhD from the University of Antwerp. He is a native Dutch speaker and is fluent in English.
